A few thoughts and observations on Week 1.
-I suck. I can't believe I rolled the dice with Vince Young and am just shocked that he busted out a 142.8. In hindsight, he's never been an accurate passer and seems to have a PER of somewhere around 80 on his very best days. The crazy thing is that I am still considering going with Sam Bradford who faces the same defense Vince did, although he'll be on the road. Stupid. I should have gone with Mark Sanchez or Brett Favre just because I hate them.
-Two players chose Matt Moore. Awesome job.
-The Cade McNown Division seems to be the most competative. Click here for the full Week 1 standings.
-Two quarterbacks were knocked out in the first half of Week 1 meaning that their respective back-up's stats came into play. This worked out well for Tommy Murata, who had Matt Stafford, but not so much for David Bolthouse who had Kevin Kolb. Kolb was having a really shitty first half (good in this game) before Clay Matthews bounced his head off the turf like a red rubber four-square ball. You know the sound those things make against cement right? Remember, the rule is that if your QB gets benched or injured in the first half and does not return for the second- you take on the backup's stats. If your QB goes down in the second half, you only get credit for the starter.
-Some of you have inquired about fumbles. I admit that I should have thought of that at first, but I didn't so we are going to ignore them for this year.
-Also, I have received a few suggestions regarding Division names. I kind of like the way they are now, but if you send me one that fits, I may decide to use it.
-Five best picks used in Week 1: Matt Moore (32.6), Jake Delhomme (59.2), Joe Flacco (62.2), Matt Cassel (68.0), Jason Campbell (69.7)
-Five best picks NOT used in Week 1: Alex Smith (52.5), Sam Bradford (53.1), Mark Sanchez (56.4), Donovan McNabb (63.4), Matt Schaub (67.5)
-Idiot picks of Week 1: Vince Young (142.8), Matt Hasselbeck (108.3), Jay Cutler (108.3), Carson Palmer (92.5)
-Former Oregon Duck news: How about P. Chung racking up 16 tackles in his first start for New England? Love it. Also, I didn't get to watch the game, but looking at the numbers, it looked like Haloti dominated once again. I haven't had a favorite NFL team in years (players move around too much), but as long as my all-time favorite Duck lines up for Baltimore, I'll go with the Ravens.
-That's about all for week 1. Please be sure to get your picks in before the games start. I will try and remind you all, but next week I will be on vacation and am not sure if I will have any internet access. The next set of standings will not be posted until after Week 3.
